    CONSIDERING INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL?

 

Thank you for your interest in attending Independence High School @ The Milton Center.

 We are located at 86 School Drive, Alpharetta, Georgia   30009.  Please note the following admission requirements:

 

 1.  Live within the Fulton County school district (non-Fulton county school district resident, tuition $360.00 per course)

 2.  Completion of two years of high school

 3.  Must be at least 16 years of age

 4.  Completion of at least 5 credits (ELL and Exceptional Ed completion of 9^th and 10^th grade Language Arts)

 5.  Not currently placed under suspension or expulsion

 6.  Able to read English at a 9^th grade level or higher

 7.  Passing score of the GHSGT (Georgia High School Graduation Test) in the Writing and

      Language Arts portions (ELL seniors only)

 8.  Able to complete academic work independently

 9.  Mature and self-disciplined

10. Successful completion of an interview with an Independence High School Counselor

 

The following documents must be obtained by the student/parent and brought to the interview session.  PLEASE NOTE:  the Independence High School counseling office is not responsible for obtaining these records.  In addition, Fulton County school district residents will not be admitted without proof of residency.

 

 1.         Most recent official transcript (sealed in envelope)  We will not accept unofficial or fax’d transcripts.  We do

             not request records for interviews.  It is the responsibility of the student/parent to obtain all necessary

             records/documents.  Please do not arrive without all documents.

3. Discipline Record

4. School Feedback Form (Fulton county only)

5. Test card must include proof of GHSGT (Georgia High School Graduation Test) scores (if applicable)

6. Copy of most recent IEP (if applicable)

7. Copy of social security card (if applicable)

8. Copy of birth certificate

9. Proof of Fulton county school district residency (two of any of the following)

 

                                      

                          *Copy of home contract

                          *Current payment stub

                          *Receipt to have utilities connected

                          *Current bank statement

                          *Current utility bill (gas, electric or water)

                          *Apartment lease showing name of lessee

                          *Homeowner’s/Renter’s insurance registration card

 

10.         A handwritten essay, approximately one page in length, addressing why the student wishes to attend

             Independence High School.  Please express why in the student’s opinion, a traditional school environment

             may currently not be a good fit for the student.  Address the student’s plan if accepted @ Independence

             High School to successfully obtain his/her high school diploma.

 

Interviews must be scheduled in advance through the Independence High School Counseling/Guidance office.   Our Counselors meet individually with the student and parent/legal guardian.  At that time, transcripts, essay and all other documents will be reviewed and discussed. If the student is accepted into Independence High School, a mandatory orientation session must be completed prior to receiving a schedule of classes.  AN INTERVIEW DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION.  Applicants should continue attending their current school until they are officially accepted @IHS. STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.
