Dear Media Specialists,
I introduced the Big6 to the Language Arts Vertical Team members from our cluster with the idea of standardizing on a research process, especially for 5h through 12th grades. I think we're all finding that teaching students how to research & present a topic has been hit & miss at best. The Langrage Arts teachers on the vertical team asked that I share this information with you. They were all very receptive to the idea. Here is the PowerPoint I used, plus one for teaching teachers, plus one for teaching teachers, plus several handouts. Anytime one tries to standardize anything among several schools, it is a process that can take weeks or months. In this case, standardization would not become something mandatory, but rather recommended. The Big6 was chosen because of its ease of use, extraordinary web site (www.big6.com) and the fact that it covers all the research steps in a logical, systematic format, with modification for younger or learning impaired students.
