Compulsory attendance:

The Georgia Compulsory School Attendance Law requires that all students between the ages of 6 and 16 attend school, be it public, private, or home study. When necessary, it is the responsibility of the school social worker to file proceedings in court to enforce the law. In addition, the school social worker encourages parents to utilize other juvenile laws when their children are runaways or considered unruly.


Child Labor:

The Federal and State Child Labor Laws affect working children enrolled in school. The school social worker helps students, parents, schools, and employers interpret the law.


Abuse/Neglect:

The child abuse/neglect laws require that every school employee is to report suspected neglect or abuse. In Fulton County, the school social workers is the mandated liaison with child protective service agencies.
