This Friday, April 25th, is the International Day of Silence, a silent protest against hate crimes toward gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and the transgendered. Stop by Mr. Glenn’s room for more information and speaking cards. If you can’t participate actively, you can wear red to show support.  Don’t forget that this year’s Day of Silence honors Lawrence King. His story can be found on www.dayofsilence.org or with the rest of the info in Mr. Glenn’s room.

Congratulations to Lindsey Howard who won superior plus in a statewide Latin oratory competition last weekend at Northview High School.  Way to go Lindsey!

Are you interested in learning Arabic?  Apply for a scholarship to the Arabic language institute in Amman, Jordan.  Information is available in the office.

The 3rd dance workshop taking place next Wednesday, April 2nd, from 12-12:45.  Students please sign up with me with Ms. Edelson.

This Saturday, March 29th, between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, is Earth Hour.  Please join this global power conservation event (www.earthhour.org).  Georgia Power will be measuring the drop in electricity use during the event.  When you leave school this Friday afternoon please shutdown your PC (not Log Off), power off your monitor, printer, speakers, calculator, scanner, lights and any other non-essential electrical appliances.

Enrichment:  Students your options for enrichment this week are AP tutorials, basketball in the gym, free time in the commons room, and tutoring/clubs with teacher/sponsor permission.  In addition, we have modified the Lunch Bunch – details from Ms. Hale.

USA test prep is still available online for any students who want to prepare for the science GHSGT tomorrow or Social Studies Thursday. 

 

The school store will only be open during class times to students who can produce a pass from a teacher.

Welcome to a straight A day.  We are looking forward to the GHSGT next week.  Juniors get a good night’s sleep before your tests.  When you report to school on Monday go directly to the North Professional Learning Media Center (the big room on the way to the cafeteria.)  We will begin testing directly at 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Thurs of next week.  Here is the schedule:

Friday---makeup day for all subjects

Please remember to bring #2 pencils and basic calculators -- this mean no graphing calculators.  Every student is expected to line up quietly outside of the North Professional Learning Media Center. You will sign in and take a seat. NO cell phones are allowed in the testing area. There will be a place to leave your cell phones and ipods until after the test. If a cell phone or ipod is seen or used during the test, your test could be voided. This means your test will not be graded.

 

Seniors---Do you need tips on interviewing?  Do you want to know what employer's are looking for?  Will you know how to manage your money when you get your paycheck?  Seniors please come to room G122 for helpful interviewing tip and learn how to manage your money on Thursday at 12:00.

Virtual Campus Summer classes are offered and students can sign up now through Mrs. Edwards or Mrs. Whitley.  You may complete assignments from anywhere as long as you have internet access and you must log on everyday.  This would be a great option for some kids.  Cost is $250.00 per course or $200.00 per course if on free lunch plan.

GHSGT is next week.  Monday is English, Tuesday – Math, Wednesday -- Science, Thursday -- Social Studies.  Be here and be on time.  Very important tests for you.  We know you will do well on these tests!

Final Exams begin today with 1st period and 2nd period today and 3rd and 4th period exams tomorrow,  Good luck!

Students you have final exams Tuesday and Wednesday this week. 1st and 2nd period exams are tomorrow.   3rd and 4th period exams are on Wednesday.  We will start the new semester on Thursday, March 13, 2008.  Friday is a teacher work day so students you have a long weekend.  Please prepare and do a great job on your finals.

Georgia High School Graduation Tests will be held next week.  Our expectation is 100% pass rate.  Any juniors with perfect attendance next are invited to a pizza party on Friday.

Alex Smith, is a finalist in the ”Best Teen Chef Competition” at the Art Institute of Atlanta.”  She competes again April 12th.  This win will advance her to the Nationals in Las Vegas.  Best of Luck to Alex Smith!

The Book Club will meet after school on Wednesday in the Commons room.

 

The Alpharetta YMCA is hosting their SECOND ANNUAL 3 on 3 HOOP DREAMS COMPETITION on Saturday March 8th from 1pm-6pm.  Teams can have 3 or 4 players ages 13-18. Interested teams should go by the Y and register this week.

 

Today is junior registration.  Students please pick up your registration form and transcript in first period.  Then take them to teachers of each content area: math, science, language arts, social studies, and electives.  Note that you may need a class recommendation from teachers that are not on their current schedule.

 

Please remember that the GHSGT is March 17-20. Please study and be prepared.  Today’s study session is science in the computer lab.

We have a new student copier.  Copies are 15 cents each – the machine will give change for a dollar bill or quarters or two dimes, and we will make change if the need arises.  It’s very easy to use; it’s just like the one at the Alpharetta branch of the public library.

 

Students you can purchase Prom tickets this Friday at the school starting at 11:30 am during lunch and enrichment periods.  Our 1st annual Prom will be held on Saturday, March 29th, at The Country Club of Roswell from 8:00 pm until midnight.  Advance ticket price is $40.00 per ticket.  Event will include a DJ, live student band, breakfast buffet and lots of fun.

 

The 6th Annual North Fulton Youth Job Fair will be held at the North Fulton Career Center, 8610 Roswell Road, Suite 660, Atlanta, Georgia 30350, 770-645-4480 on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 3:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.  It is open to Fulton County youth ages 16-21.  Workshops include resume building and interviewing skills.  Job seekers should dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes.

Tomorrow is an early release day.  Each class will meet for one hour and you will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.  Subs & Salads will be available in the cafeteria.  Busses leave the school at 12:45 p.m.

Seniors---please fill out your FAFSA( Free application for Financial Student Aid) This can be done online at www.fafsa.ed.gov/ This application must be filled out in order to get money for college.

 

Seniors---have you started planning for college? Many deadlines for college applications are right around the corner…what are you waiting on.

 

Auburn University is having a “Summer Experience”.

These one-week camps provide opportunities for students to stretch their minds while experiencing a collegiate lifestyle on our campus.  Academic work is balanced with supervised social and recreational activities designed to allow campers to make new friends and meet professionals who share their interests.  The camps are a valuable journey of discovery – of self, of the greater world, and of the Auburn University environment.  Early enrollment is encouraged!

Good morning Connected Academy!  I hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing long weekend.

Students what are your plans for the summer?  See your counselor or visit the CA website for summer opportunities ranging from a Journalism program at Princeton to Disease Detective Camp at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.  Do not miss these opportunities.
