LSAC Meeting Minutes

December 6, 2007

7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

Attending: Greg Waymire, Kacey Ciprari-murphy, Daniel Glenn, Pamela Harris, and Susan Caster

We welcomed new LSAC member, parent Pamela Harris.

We discussed selecting the following officers at the next meeting:

The chairperson, which shall be a parent, shall develop the agenda for all meetings, preside at all meetings of the school council, and perform such other duties as required by law or as shall be requested by the school council.

The vice chairperson shall, in the absence of the chairperson, perform the duties and exercise the powers of the chairperson and shall perform such other duties as shall be requested by the school council.

The secretary shall act as the clerk of the school council, record all votes and minutes of all proceedings, give notice of all meetings of the school council, and shall perform such other duties as may be required by law or as shall be requested by the school council.

Updates Included:

Completion of first Classes – In another week teachers will have covered their complete curriculum one time.  They are already evaluating and making modifications for next semester.  We also have plans for two teachers to get bus driver licenses in January so field trips will be easier although the trips by foot and MARTA have been successful.

EOCT – Despite technology issues that disrupted the Geometry EOCT over all the testing went smoothly.  Any students who did not complete the Geometry test will take it on Friday.

Early Release Professional Development – We were very fortunate to have Dr. Holly Robinson as our speaker for the last early release day.  She is a charter school expert and has just been appointed by Governor Perdue to be the Commissioner of Bright from the Start – one of four education departments run by the State.

Recruitment of Students – Meeting with Susan Hogan from Emory Goizueta Business School for marketing assistance.

Clubs and Activities – We now officially have a National Honor Society.  We have a team of students participating in the Destination Imagination Construction Challenge.  The Student Government did an excellent job putting on Connected Academy’s first dance!

Service – Connected Academy collected holiday gifts for a needy family identified by North Fulton Community Charities.

Recruitment Discussion:

bullet Include student testimonials in recruitment letter
bullet Organize students to visit schools and recruit
bullet Collect data by a survey to find out what works well and what doesn’t
