History And
Art Collaborate To Create Banneker Pride!

It takes both history
and art to make a great mural. A mural funded by the
Fulton County Arts Council and the School Arts Program was
created for the front hall at Banneker High School. Local
artist Cheryl Mybro worked with the art department at Banneker
to create the mural. It combined the ideas from Mary
Northcutt's Advanced Art classes with Lee Pope's US History
classes. The theme was "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow".
Ms. Mybro, through the grant worked with the students from
March14-25.
Mrs. Northcutt stated
that as the students worked on the mural there was a common
theme created by the ideas developed by both history and art
classes. The students got a great sense of ownership
of the school, by being able to make a difference in their
surroundings. It was important to them to leave something
behind after they graduate. The mural of "Yesterday, and
Today" combines movie posters, artists and musicians of the
early to mid 1900's, with artist and historians of today.
For "Tommorow" they used some recongnizable faces in the mural,
but most were unrecognizable faces who look to the future.
Thank You Cheryl Mybro, and all involved
for a job well done!
