CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT
|
|
 |
WHAT IS IT?
Accelerated Reader is a
motivational reading program funded by your PTA dollars. Students are
challenged to meet a quarterly reading goal by completing a set number
of books within their reading level.
How does it work?
The students take a STAR reading
quiz to determine their reading level. They then work with their
teachers to set a reading goal for themselves. The books are all
available in our school library. Reading can be done in school as well
as at home. After they read their chosen book, they take a computerized
comprehension quiz. As they pass each quiz they move toward their
reading goals. At the end of each reading period all children who meet
their AR goals participate in a celebration.

LUNCH BUNCH
 |
WHAT IS IT?
Lunch Bunch is a PTA funded book club for 4th & 5th graders. Ten
children from every class will be eligible to participate each month.
The program aims to provide literature that is age appropriate and is
designed to encourage recreational reading. (These books contribute to
the students A/R goals.) The students will be provided with a free lunch
during group discussion with a team leader. Team leaders are parent
volunteers. The discussion will take place in your child's classroom at
their regular lunchtime.
How can your child join?
Each student who wishes to participate must
fill out an application and bring in a signed permission slip. In
the event that more than ten students in any class chose to join, a
lottery will take place selection students for that particular
month. The program begins in September and runs through April.

MASTERS OF THE ARTS
 |
WHAT IS IT?
Our curriculum-based program is designed to introduce our students to
different famous artists throughout the ages. This optional program is
available to all teachers and is offered in addition to our Art
curriculum.
How does it work?
If the program is being offered in your child's classroom, it is done by
a parent volunteer. The frequency of presentations depends on the
schedule of the classroom. The parent will present specific information
about an artist, show samples of their work and share a simple art
activity. Volunteers are welcome to use prepared materials or design
their own. All volunteers receive training and have access to resource
materials.
