What's Up In Math?

1

I was taught and strongly believe that having a quality education will open doors and present many wonderful opportunities.  Having received my Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from Eastern New Mexico University, a Masters from California Lutheran and an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of West Georgia, I learned first hand the truth of my beliefs.  My years in education led to a cross country and European teaching career of 21 years.  Each of my experiences in New Mexico, Arizona, Germany, Nevada, and California confirmed my commitment to children and education.  I gained an even greater appreciation of the inner workings at the district level, during my tenure as an Assistant Principal at Heards Ferry Elementary and Northwood Elementary School.  This year, I will begin my eleventh year as the Principal of New Prospect Elementary where I will continue to inspire, encourage and support the education for all of our boys and girls.

My name is Adam Maroney and I will be serving as your new assistant principal. I wanted to share a little about myself so you could get to know me as we get started this year. I hold degrees from the University of Maine at Farmington (B.S., Special Education: Speech Pathology) and the University of Cincinnati (M.S., Communication Sciences and Disorders). I have also completed coursework in Educational Leadership at Kennesaw State University.

I have been working with Fulton County for the past several years. I began my career with Fulton County schools as a Speech Therapist. In this capacity, I worked with students at the elementary and high school levels from ages 3 to 21. My education and work as a speech therapist has given me the opportunity to study language development. This is crucial to all elementary students because our curriculum here is so heavily based in language. I have the ability to help teachers differentiate their instruction to ensure that all students can learn and achieve to their fullest potential. I have also worked as an Instructional Support Teacher at the high school level. In this position, I coordinated the special education instruction. While at the high school level, I gained perspective on the educational career of the student. Having worked in various levels of education, I know what is expected of students at each level and can help teachers prepare students for what is to come.
