NMS Media Center

Information and Links for Teachers

The NMS Media Center offers an extensive selection of professional materials, including books, journals, transparencies, audio tapes, DVDs, and videos. Equipment available for checkout includes Video Cameras, LCD/Video Projectors, Tape Recorders, Boom Boxes, DVD Players, Digital Cameras, etc. Following is an outline of the available services, facilities and procedures, and a list of useful Internet links. As always, if you have any questions or need help with any of these things, please let us know!

     Facilities and Guidelines

Media Center Layout

·        Main Floor: divided into 2 areas: Reference and Reading

·        Georgia Room: contains materials relating to Georgia and famous Georgians, and "Special Collections" including Literature and Poetry, and the Careers collection.

·        Media Storage Room: Videos, back issues of periodicals, software (laser discs, CD-ROMs), audio tapes, DVDs, professional books and periodicals

Bringing your class to the Media Center

·        Sign up in advance for whole classes and large groups. There is a reservation board just past the display case inside the Media Center door.  Let us know what you are doing, so we can help you make the most of your time here.

·        When you bring a class, remain in the Media Center and help your students maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and working.

·        Individual students are welcome, but will need a pass.

·        Small groups (maximum 6 students) may come on one pass .

·       (New!) Pride groups are welcome to come to the media center.  1-3 students may come in on their own (with a pass), and the entire Pride class may come in with their teacher.

          Services

  • Orientation for all 6th grade students
  • "Pathfinder" orientation with each class when they begin a major research project
  • Brief review of available resources when students begin any research assignment
  • Prepare bibliographies on requested units of study/reserve appropriate books and materials
  • "Book Talks" for classes checking out specific types of books or to motivate students to read and talk about books.
  • Individual assistance with book selection and research for students and teachers
  • Assistance with video and multi-media equipment
