The largest block of time
in the students' daily schedule is devoted to
interdisciplinary studies (basics!)
--communication skills (English. spelling,
reading, writing, and listening), computation
skills (mathematics/arithmetic), social studies,
and science. All students participate in the
interdisciplinary core. Teachers work
individually and in teams, with both large and
small groups of students -- whichever arrangement
is most appropriate to facilitate student
learning.
Spanish and French are offered
as six-week, exploratory classes in the 6th
grade. If recommended by their foreign language
and interdisciplinary teachers, students with well-developed reading skills may elect to
continue formal study of one of these languages -
either French or Spanish - in the seventh and
eighth grades.
Students who do not take a
foreign language in the seventh and eighth grade
continue in the developmental reading program.
They will still have adequate time to meet the
foreign language requirements of the high school
college preparatory course.
