Session 1: Power to Teach Overview

Activity 1:        Overview of the Power to Teach Program (30 minutes)

Intel Teach to the Future website, http://www.intel.com/education/unitplans/ has many examples of lessons plans.

Activity 2:         File types; Setting up folders  (30 minutes)

Set up Folders in My Documents
            PowerPoint;    Publisher;    Web Page;   Other Documents

Activity 3:         Planning your Unit   (30 minutes)

What you are expected to create during your PTT course are the following:

PowerPoint:

  1. A Personal PowerPoint
  2. A PowerPoint that presents the information for the unit, teacher focused.
  3. A follow up PowerPoint that expands further on the presented information, teacher focused, or a PowerPoint created as if you were the student, student focused.      
  4. A rubric to grade the student example, if you have students creating a PowerPoint.

Publisher Documents:

  1. A Flyer that announces an event or needs for the classroom, teacher focused.
  2. A Brochure that announces an event, or needs for the classroom, or introduces the lessons information in a different format, teacher focused.
  3. A Newsletter that presents Unit Lesson information to the student, teacher focused.
  4. Any of the above but as a student focused lesson in which you create a student example. For teacher focused lessons create another way to disseminate information to students.
  5. A rubric to grade the student example, if you have students creating a Publisher file.

Publisher Webpage:

  1. A webpage that is about your or your program at school, teacher focused.  There is not a student example for this portion of the PTT course.
