Message from the Principal

Image description

Ocee ES teachers work diligently to create standards-based classrooms. "What does that mean?" you might ask. Very simply, here are some of the components in a standards-based classroom. The standards to be taught or the essential questions relating to those standards are posted so students understand what they are expected to learn. Students are actively engaged in the learning process, and they are working on projects or performance tasks that demonstrate their understanding of the standards. Teachers are using formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and giving students appropriate and specific feedback. Those assessments are often in the form of rubrics which are shared ahead of time with students. Textbooks are just one of several resources that are provided as learning tools. The next time you visit your child's classroom, see if you can identify the standard-based strategies in place.

Sincerely,
Debbie Pernice

The Giving Tree

All of the students at Ocee heard the book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein read on Otter Talk and visited Ocee's Giving Tree. Each student selected a leaf from the tree that has an item on it to be donated to North Fulton Charities or Georgia foster children. We hope the story and the opportunity to help others will make our children reflect on what they have to be thankful for and to be compassionate towards those who are in need. Please drop off donations in the bins at Ocee's Giving Tree in the front lobby no later than Friday, November 20th.
