GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE means showing
thanks for something or someone. When
we show GRATITUDE we are showing our appreciation for what we have and what we
receive. GRATITUDE is the feeling of being grateful.
1.
As an
organization, how do you earn the gratitude of your members or employees? Does
your group, in turn, recognize and thank members for their contributions toward
your common goals?
2.
Food for
thought: Are you in the habit of saying "thanks"? When was the last time
that someone thanked you for something that you did for them? How did that
acknowledgement make you feel?
3.
Who
or what are you the most grateful
for? If possible, communicate your thanks to those who have had a part in
earning your gratitude, ie. parents,
teachers, spouse.

KINDNESS
KINDNESS means to be gentle and generous
toward others. A kind person shows understanding and tries to bring happiness
to others.
1. Sponsor a
"random acts of kindness" day within your group or organization.
Encourage every one of your members to do something nice for at least one
person that they come into contact with during the day, even something as small
as a smile or compliment.
2. Post this quote: "Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun
makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to
evaporate. --Albert Schweitzer
3. Think about the last time that you performed a kind act for someone without
expecting repayment or acknowledgment. How did you feel at the time?

CARING
CARING means being charitable and helpful. A CARING person looks
for good in others and exhibits kindness and compassion toward them.
1. Is your organization
charitable toward the community? Have your group plan one event within the next
twelve months that will benefit others.
2. Make a point of saying
“hello” to at least one person that you regularly come into contact with, but
whom you have never spoken to before (i.e., checkout clerk, bank teller, toll
booth operator, mail man.)
3. Think of at least one
example of how you show caring in the following areas of life: at home, at
work, in the community, in relationships, with the less fortunate.

SHARING
SHARING means to use, experience and enjoy with others. SHARING means giving someone a portion of your time and talents, or possessions to help them.
1. Does your organization provide ways for its members to share what they
have with others? Has your group ever sponsored a charity, organized a blood drive,
or encouraged participation in a community mentorship program?

3. This week, take the opportunity to share in one of the following ways:
Donate to a local charity; volunteer for a cause close to your heart; teach
someone a skill that you have, or; give of your time to someone who needs it.

RESPONSIBILITY means doing what you are supposed to do. A responsible person completes tasks, corrects his or her mistakes, and strives to do his or her best.

Food For Thought: How willing are you to accept responsibility for your mistakes?
3.
Name five
responsibilities that you have on a daily basis in different areas of your
life. Next, on a scale from one to ten, rate how committed you are to doing
your best at each task.

task, however small? Is excellence one of the common goals in your group’s
mission?

DECISION MAKING
DECISION MAKING is the process of selecting a course
of action based on consideration of the facts and potential consequences.
1. Does your group or organization make important decisions
collectively, or is the responsibility given to a certain members? What might
be some of the advantages of making a decision using each method?
2. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What are the characteristics of a “good”
decision?
3. Does your group or organization encourage its members to make
decisions independently in regard to your mission? Why or why not?

Week of January 8, 2007
FRIENDSHIP is a relationship between two or more people that
brings out the best in them.
1.
Does your organization encourage friendships among
its members? What types of events or activities does you group sponsor to help
members get to know one another as individuals?

thought: What qualities do you look for in
a friend? Do you, yourself, bring those same qualities to the friendships that
you make?
3.
This week, contact a friend that you have not spoken
with for two months or more.

TRUSTWORTHINESS
Week of January 15, 2007
TRUSTWORTHINESS means being honest and truthful. A trustworthy
person is reliable, tells the truth, keeps promises, and would not
intentionally cause harm.
1. Take a vote: Who represents the best example of trustworthiness in
your group or organization? Give that person special recognition in some way.
2. Food For Thought: Who would you trust with a task that your life
depended on?
3. Do you find that you trust
others easily, or must they first earn your trust in some way? Would you say
that most of the people in the world are trustworthy? Why or why not?
