WILDCAT NEWS FOR WILSON CREEK FAMILIES

Wilson Creek Wildcats are Reliable !

Where Knowledge Flows and Learning Grows”

Text Box: Dear Wilson Creek Family,
Emergency Closings!
I know we all did not expect to have a day out of school this week but the extraordinary weather conditions made this a necessity. Whenever the decision is made to close the school, all media outlets are notified. The Fulton County webpage also displays the information and you can also sign up for email alerts from the county so you get the information quickly. We also display the closing on our webpage.
Testing Update
Because we were not able to test on Tuesday, the testing schedule has been adjusted. On Friday, the students will be taking the Math portion of the test. The final test covering Social Studies and Science will take place Tuesday, September 29. Other than make-ups, there will not be any testing on Monday.
Cards and Toys
Students are discouraged from bringing toys, game cards and electronics to school. If they choose to, they are at their own risk should these items be lost or taken. If the items cause a disruption to instructional time the teacher will collect the item for the parent to pick up later. Please encourage your child to leave these items at home.

From Your School Social Worker Myra Cornelius-Fennell, LMSW
AFTER SCHOOL SUPERIVISION GUIDELINE
As your School Social Worker, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your students a happy new school year. In an effort to help keep our children safe, I would like to remind you of the guidelines provided by Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services in reference to the amount of time and acceptable ages that a child may be left home unsupervised or supervised by a child under the age of 18 years.
Children under the age of eight (8) may never be left alone in self care for
any period of time.
Children between the ages of nine (9) and twelve (12) may be left alone for
brief periods of time (less than two hours when the child is determined to
be mature by the caretaker). However, they may NOT be responsible for
the care of younger siblings. Please know the state is very firm on this policy.
Children ages thirteen (13) and older may be left alone and may perform the
role of babysitter as authorized by the parent/caretaker. It is advisable to
limit this time to twelve (12) hours or less and only when the child is determined
mature by the caretaker. It is also suggested that children thirteen (13) years
or older caring for others receive training from a course on babysitting.
Older children with special conditions or disabilities should not be left alone.
It is my hope that this information will be helpful to you. If you are in need of information about local child care
facilities that provide bus pick-up and drop-off to our school, please contact the school at 770-497-3811. For further
information or questions concerning these guidelines, please feel free to contact at the same phone number.
From Our Counseling Department:
Fill Someone’s Bucket with Reliability
Reliability - A person who does as promised can be considered as reliable. Reliability is an admirable social character trait. People don't like to deal with those who are unreliable. They'd rather give their
business and rewards to the person they can count on. Also, the reliable person feels good, knowing
that he or she is trusted.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students can participate in the Caldecott Club beginning in October through April.  When a student reads (or is read to) 20 gold or silver Caldecott books, their Caldecott form should be returned to the Media Center.  Each time your child returns a Caldecott Club form, we will add a star with his or her name to our Caldecott Club display (red for kindergarten, orange for 1st grade). Our goal is to completely cover the wall with stars by the end of the school year!
A Caldecott form is being sent home in the VIP folders today.  Additional forms may be printed from the Wilson Creek website under Media Center.

Attention All 5th graders:

Evergreen School Plaque
Have you noticed the new “Evergreen School” sign at the entrance to our school?  We’re excited to be recognized by
“Keep Johns Creek Beautiful” with this distinction.  We received the plaque after fulfilling the goals set last year to
raise environmental awareness at our school.  Most notable was the paper recycling program implemented last year.  Please look for more information about a school-wide recycling program we hope to roll out very soon.  Great job Green Team!!
Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Recycling
Does your family have athletic shoes they’ve outgrown or worn out?  Please bring them to our school during September
