About the Orchestra...

The mission of the Fulton County Youth Orchestra program is to provide a performing group for the most talented young string orchestra musicians enrolled in the Fulton County Public School orchestra and elementary general music programs. This orchestra supplements the school orchestra programs and challenges its members to greater musical excellence via weekly rehearsals and regularly scheduled performances.

About Our Conductors...

Sharon M. Anderson is a 35 year veteran orchestra teacher and nationally recognized orchestra conductor, clinician, and pedagogue.  She is the founding director of the Fulton Youth Orchestras and will co-direct this newly formed honors group this year with string educator, Tim Anderson.  Mrs. Anderson is a violist with a degree in Music Education with honors from the University of Illinois.  In her 35 years as an orchestra director, she has been a Fulton ”MS Teacher of the Year”, an GaASTA State of Georgia “Teacher of the Year”, and last fall got a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Atlanta Symphony.   Currently Mrs. Anderson is the part time orchestra director at Haynes Bridge Middle School.  Mrs. Anderson is delighted to continue helping develop this next new honors level for the fabulous Fulton County Orchestra teachers, elementary general music teachers, and students!

Tim Anderson is a cellist and has been the Orchestra Director at Autrey Mill Middle School since 2004.  He has served as a conductor of Fulton Youth Orchestras for 3 years, has taken 2 orchestras to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference, and was a teacher of the year at Pinckneyville Middle School in Gwinnett County.  He serves as the director of the American String Teachers Association summer orchestra camp and is on the standing committee of the Georgia Music Educators Association orchestra division.  He is a graduate of the Fulton County School System and is proud to be working with the fine students and teachers who work so hard to keep music a valuable part of their education.

How to Join...

Information about our 2013-2014 season will be posted in August of 2013.  Auditions are scheduled for September 17th.  Until then feel free to look over our application materials from last year.  Students interested in joining the FCYO should read the participation requirements to insure eligibility and clear understanding of the rules and regulations surrounding membership.  Once you have confirmed this please head to the application page, download the required audition excerpts, fill in all the required information, and hit submit.
