music which exemplify the Neoclassism
era and the new Romantic era. Students should be taking notes as we

notes on Romanticism and read “The First Snowfall” by Fireside
Poet, James Russell Lowell. Discussion over the
poem will continue tomorrow and will focus on rhyme scheme (and its
connection to meaning), allusion, figurative language, themes, and
symbolism. |
11 Conclusion of discussion for “The First Snowfall” and new
reading of “Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In discussion we made connections to
the ideals of Romanticism as well as to Lowell’s work. |

Falls” by Longfellow. In
today’s activity, I had students split into groups of 4 or 5 and gave
the poem above cut into individual lines. Based patterns of Romantic thought
we have established in previous discussions, students will piece the poem
together. The first group to get
it right won a prize! |

their function, not just their definitions. This will be the foundation of
all things grammar that we do this year. Today we’ll get through IVAN
