Hello! My name is Margaret Dean. I am excited to be a part of Stonewall
Tell’s First Grade Team. This is my ninth year of teaching. I have also
taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten here at Stonewall Tell.
I
graduated from
Hampton University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English in the
Spring of 2000. The following Spring I received my Masters from the same
university. I,
like you, have had a busy summer, but I am glad to be back to enhance
another successful group of young learners!
This year will be full of many GREAT LEARNING activities and events for
your First Grader. I am looking forward to working with you and your
child. Your First Grader will be presented with more material to learn
than you EVER imagined. I know at some point you will say "I was in
THIRD GRADE before I learned this!" And you will probably be right!
It is amazing what these little minds can soak up.
As you may already know, we are following the Georgia Performance
Standards (GPS.) The GPS has been applied to the Reading/Language Arts,
Math, Science, and Social Studies. The GPS specifically states what
your child should be able to do by the end of first grade. I encourage
you to go to Fulton County’s web site to review the first grade
standards. We also use Accelerated Reader, Daily Oral Language and
encourage At Home Reading (each night). Our Health, Art, PE and Music
are also excellent programs. First Grade is a lot of hard work, BUT we
will work together and make it a GREAT YEAR. Parents, your encouragement
and extra help at home will make all of the difference this year.
Please help me keep the lines of communication open between us. If there
is anything I need to know ALWAYS SEND A NOTE. Each Monday, I will send
home a behavior report and graded papers for you to read, sign and
return by Wednesday of the same week. Your child will have a
homework folder that he/she will bring home EVERYDAY. This folder
is important because homework and notes to you will be sent in this
folder. It needs to be checked daily by you or another guardian. I am
looking forward to a SUPER FIRST GRADE YEAR!
