Counselors' Corner

SST Goal: The Student Support Team (SST) supports students who experience academic or behavioral difficulties in their current educational setting after informal collaboration has been implemented.  An SST is a group of three or more educators/parents whose responsibility is to assist classroom teachers in a collaborative, data-based, problem solving process designed to identify a student's educational strengths, instructional needs, effective and appropriate strategies for the general education classroom, and continuous monitoring procedures.

SST Objectives:

bulletMonitor the success and progress of a student who is experiencing academic and/or behavioral difficulties
bulletUse all available information to select or develop appropriate teaching/learning strategies
bulletOffer additional resources regarding students at risk
bulletEnhance communication and collaboration between parents and school
bulletDevelop and maintain effective, efficient team processes by meeting weekly with teams to discuss and support students
bulletRecognize SST as an integral component of a problem solving, school-based, learning community
