The Apprentice 5

Are you HIRED or FIRED?  YOU and your team will find out with this interactive marketing project to cap our Media Unit.

Overview: The Breakfast Challenge

In assigned groups, students will create a promotional campaign for a breakfast product, aimed at a specific customer profile (demographic), using the information we have studied in class thus far.

Your promotional campaign will include:

1.        A promotional plan

2.        Creation of a slogan for the advertising campaign

3.        Creation of a print advertisement

4.        Creation of a 30 second TV OR radio advertisement

5.        An outline of at least five ideas the client could use for publicity for their product or brand.

What to do:

1.      Once you have received the demographic, you and your group need to discuss and identify your consumer needs and wants for your product (the first of the 4 P’s of marketing…)

  1. You will need to determine the promotional plan for your product.   For this exercise you will be focusing on two categories of promotion: advertising and PR.

  1. Lastly, you will consider and recommend to your client how they should place or distribute their product to the customer (i.e., a fixed location such as a department store or kiosk, over the internet, etc.).

To turn in:

1.      An outline of your target customer needs and wants.  This should include an introduction paragraph identifying your target customer demographic, followed by an outline of what your group perceives their needs and wants to be.

  1. A Promotion Plan - This is the description of your projected promotional tactics. This should be about a half a page and should describe what “forms of communication” you will recommend your company use to “perform, persuade or remind people” of the product you are promoting. (For example, what advertising will you do?  Where do you suggest your client place or run the ads you develop?  What publicity ideas do you have to promote the product?)  Your plan should have in appendices:

ü       A copy of the slogan for the advertising campaign

ü       A copy of a print advertisement your group has created that would run in a magzine - needs to have all four elements of a print ad that we discussed in class (headline, illustration, copy, signature)

ü       The script for your 30 second TV OR radio advertisement

ü       An outline of at least five ideas the client could use for publicity for their product or brand. (The description for each idea should be at least three sentences long….)

All your written work needs to be TYPED and should have the name of all the members of your group listed on it.

Your promotion plan should be neatly bound.

To present to the Board

Your group will have a five minute presentation in the Boardroom.  You will need to:

ü      give a succinct overview of your promotional plan

ü      present a copy of your print ad

ü      show or play your 30 second ad for the class.

Only one member will present, but they should be chosen carefully….

The top three groups as decided by the Board Members will receive extra credit points on the test grade as follows:

Team 1: 15 points

Team 2: 10 points

Team 3: 5 points

DUE: Wednesday.  Counts as your final UNIT TEST GRADE.  All participants will receive the same grade.

We will begin 5 minute presentations halfway thought the period on Wednesday.  Your presentation should be made by one (no more than two) people.  The presentations should be rehearsed…choose your spokesperson well.
